Truth in a Haystack
Claims & Narratives

Truth or Lie?

These are the dominant false narratives shaping public discourse right now — claims that circulate as conventional wisdom, generate political power, or justify real-world harm. Each is examined against the evidence.

Israel is committing a genocide in Gaza.

False as stated. The claim that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, asserted as established fact, fails the legal definition's central test: specific intent to destroy Palestinians as a group. When intent is inferred from conduct, genocide must be the only reasonable inference, and here it is not: the evidence fits a war against Hamas, which openly stated its own intent to kill Israelis, fought with heavy civilian harm and documented violations, alongside warnings, evacuations, aid and hostage negotiations. No court has found genocide; the ICJ case is undecided until at least 2029. This verdict rests on the evidence, not on any institution's opinion.

  2. 10

Jews and Israel are the root of all problems; Jews and Israel control the media, banks, and governments.

This is the oldest living conspiracy theory — versions of it have circulated for over 2,000 years. It has been exposed as fiction, debunked repeatedly, and directly caused the Holocaust. It continues to circulate today in both explicit and coded forms.

  3. 13

Israel knew about the October 7 attack and deliberately allowed it to happen as a pretext for genocide against Palestinians.

The claim that Israel had specific advance knowledge of Hamas's October 7 attack and chose not to prevent it — to gain sympathy and create a genocide pretext — is not supported by evidence. It follows the precise logical structure of blood libel: assuming uniquely malevolent Jewish agency, skipping documented explanations, and erasing the victims of the actual atrocity.

"Netanyahu is a war criminal" — the ICC warrant examined.

Netanyahu has not been convicted of any crime. In November 2024 ICC judges found “reasonable grounds to believe” he bears responsibility for war crimes and crimes against humanity — the standard for an arrest warrant, not for trial or conviction. No charge has been confirmed, Israel’s challenge to the court’s jurisdiction is still pending, and the prosecutor who sought the warrant was removed from office in 2026 over a sexual misconduct allegation. Stated as fact, “Netanyahu is a war criminal” is false. The central starvation allegation is contested and unadjudicated: the judges cited officials’ statements, aid increases that came only under pressure, and no identified military justification; Israel cites large aid volumes, the June 2024 IPC finding that famine was not occurring, and its own High Court’s ruling that it met its aid obligations.

The Nobel Peace Prize: From Arafat to Pillay

In 1994 the Nobel Committee awarded its Peace Prize to Yasser Arafat — leader of the PLO during Munich, Ma'alot, and the Achille Lauro — who then rejected peace and endorsed the Second Intifada. In 2026 the Committee nominated Navi Pillay, whose genocide framing of Israel's military operations Hamas publicly celebrated. These two cases are evidence about the institution, not about Israel.

The UN Ecosystem: How International Institutions Became Instruments Against Israel and the West

The UN General Assembly, UN Human Rights Council, UNRWA, ICJ, ICC, and UNESCO are invoked as neutral authorities confirming Israeli wrongdoing. This documents what those institutions are: who runs them, how they vote, what they ignore, who celebrates their outputs. The UN singled out Israel with a permanent standing agenda item no other country has — while employing people who participated in October 7 and producing findings Hamas publicly welcomes.
