If Truth Be Told
None of us can research every topic or go to every source document ourselves. If Truth Be Told checks podcasters, journalists, and others with a platform on whether they base their claims on truth or falsehood — ranking them anywhere from truth speakers to falsehood spreaders, so people can decide whom to listen to.
How If Truth Be Told Works
Whether a falsehood is intentional — a deliberate lie — or a mistake from ignorance or misinformation is difficult or impossible to determine. So If Truth Be Told focuses on whether a claim is false, not on whether the speaker knowingly lied or spread it unknowingly.
A falsehood spread out of ignorance can still be quite dangerous, and the speaker remains responsible for using their platform to spread it. Everyone — from someone reposting on social media to those with large audiences — should be careful what they share.
That responsibility is especially acute for people with a large platform, who can lead many people to believe a falsehood and even take action against whoever is accused.
