Sde Teiman Guard Sentenced to 7 Months in Prison for Abusing Palestinian Detainees (Plea Deal)
In a separate Sde Teiman case, a reservist guard convicted under a plea deal of beating bound and blindfolded detainees and filming their humiliation was sentenced by a military court to 7 months in prison, a suspended sentence, and demotion to private. Rights groups called the sentence too lenient.
A reservist who served as a guard at Sde Teiman admitted, under a plea agreement, to striking detainees with his fists and his weapon while they were bound and blindfolded, and to forcing them to imitate animal sounds while he recorded them on his phone. The military court sentenced him to 7 months of actual imprisonment, a suspended sentence, and demotion to the rank of private. (IDF; Times of Israel; Lawfare)
This case involved physical abuse and humiliation, not sexual assault, and is separate from the case of the five reservists indicted later that month. Human rights groups criticized the sentence as too light to deter abuse.
